Two large blocks of rural land north of Christchurch at Spencerville formerly intended to be a luxury golf course are being sold in two mortgagee tenders.

Real estate agencies JLL and Colliers International are acting on instructions from First Mortgage Trust and the original property owners to sell the 64 hectares and 92ha respectively.

The blocks – bounded on one side by the Styx River – had been earmarked by Young Hwan (Thomas) Na, who told the Overseas Investment Office in 2009 he was spending $16.8 million buying the properties to develop Whisper Creek Golf Resort.

Talks are continuing about which businesses might close, receivers say.

Trading will continue at Shoe Connection, Snkr, Banks Shoes, and Plimmer Shoes shops this week while owner the Banks Group is under receivership, though more stores could be in line to close.

Since Banks Group was put in receivership on Friday at the request of its director, John Banks, the company has closed two of its 14 stores. Read the article here.

Former Mad Butcher store placed in liquidation facing high costs and low margins

A former Mad Butcher franchisee was not making enough money due to rising costs and low profit margins, liquidators say.

The company which formerly operated the Mad Butcher store in Papanui, Christchurch, went into liquidation last week.

Insolvency Management liquidator Wayne Deuchrass was appointed the store's liquidator last week, but at the time said it was too early to say what had happened.
